Jet Wine Bar’s benefit for the Beirut survivors has been extended through Sunday.

The downtown Philly wine bar, one of the city’s most eclectic, is contributing 20 percent from sales of its Lebanese wines and food, either dine-in (outdoor garden) or to-go, to the Lebanese Red Cross. This is its response to the Aug. 4 explosion that killed more than 200 people, injured thousands more and left as many as 300,000 people without their homes.

it’s also a reflection of its owner’s understanding of the needs there. Weber, an archeologist, worked for over a decade in Syria, which has seen many of its residents head to Lebanon for sanctuary and livelihood. As is stated in an Aug. 6 Facebook post: “Lebanon has often served as refuge for the displaced, despite that country’s own strife and challenges, and they clearly now need help. If you wish to make a donation, please send to Venmo: JetRexYnez and put “Beirut” in the comments. We are working through Couvent Rouge winery, whose dollars are being matched!”

Jet Wine Bar held a benefit Aug. 7 but this fund-raiser was set up to continue for a week. Originally scheduled to end Thursday, it has been extended through the weekend because of all of the rain the city has received and the problems that has caused. Wrote Weber in an email to PennLive on Tuesday night: “The Lebanese pet-nat from Couvent Rouge is absolutely dreamy - we almost sold out but have more coming [Wednesday]! We have Couvent Rouge, Dar Richi, and Chateau Kefraya wines, plus arak cocktails [which have been selling like hotcakes!] Mezze platter plus skewers of chicken, lamb, or eggplant.

Weber said the wine bar has received “a lot of community support, which is awesome. The money collected from sales [also through our Venmo @JetRexYnex] will be doubled by Cisco – the Couvent Rouge winemaker also works for Cisco and got that worked out - and ultimately goes to the Lebanese Red Cross,” she said.
