With e-commerce booming during the pandemic, Scout & Cellar, the company that pioneered “Clean-Crafted” wine, is introducing a new lower-alcohol alternative for cocktails.

MIXABLE brand beverages are made by combining fermented, carbon-purified white and rosé wines with a distilled neutral grape wine. Wilderness Road, the first in the MIXABLE line, can be used to reinvent cocktails with a refreshing taste. Like all Scout & Cellar beverages, the new line is free of synthetic pesticides, chemicals, and added sugars.

The company ensures its beverages are free of added chemicals by working with vintners and growers and lab testing wines before they become part of Scout & Cellar offerings, which are sold both online at scoutandcellar.com and through Independent Wine Consultants.

Company founder Sarah Shadonix says that 2020 has been “a roller-coaster year” so far, with e-commerce one of the few areas seeing success during COVID-19.

Shadonix founded Scout & Cellar in 2017 out of her personal experience. She loved wine but didn’t like the headaches she often got after drinking a glass. In tracking down the source of the discomfort, she discovered that most mass-produced wines contain synthetic pesticides, chemical additives, and added sugar.

A former commercial litigator, Shadonix spent two years working with Wine Country Connect, a wine e-commerce and logistics company in California, to learn the business before starting her own. In just three years, Scout & Cellar has grown from one team member (Shadonix) and 50 Independent Wine Consultants to a team of 65 employees and almost 8,000 consultants.

“Our Clean-Crafted Commitment has changed the way consumers experience wine for the better,” she says. “This impact is as important to us as anything else, and it means the world to know that there are thousands of people in the world who feel this same way and are willing to take up the commitment with us.”

That success recently brought Shadonix notice as a finalist in EY’s 2020 Southwest Entrepreneur of the Year Award. The winner will be revealed virtually on Oct. 2, with regional victors considered for the national contest.

Shadonix says she is honored by the EY nomination, and she wants to continue helping others lead healthier lives.

“The idea behind our Clean-Crafted Commitment has always been rooted in living life better, in doing better, and in sharing this mission with everyone along the way,” Shadonix says. “Sure, our wine is made as naturally as possible, but our impact doesn’t stop with just wine. How we create our products has a directly positive impact on our planet, as well as on those winegrowing partners who selflessly adhere to these standards.”
